What is Breathwork?
Breathwork is an effective way of decreasing stress, anxiety, negative thought patterns, and depression levels.
It is often emotional or mental upset that causes breathing restrictions, because our tendency is to hold our breath as a reaction to overwhelming feelings.
Breathwork offers a very safe way to address stress, anxiety, grief, depression and anger head on so that our moods don’t start to take over our personal and professional lives. How we breathe often indicates how we feel. In the way shallow rapid breaths make us anxious and tired, long deep breaths that originate in the abdomen can help us feel calm, centred, grounded and energized.
The breathwork techniques you will experience combine a variety of breath exercises, including conscious connected breathing and scientifically proven yoga breathwork techniques. To support the session, you will also experience movement, visualisations and positive intentions to help you access a fuller, healthier breath.
In your introductory session, after a few preliminary questions, you will become aware of your natural breathing pattern and any dysfunctional breathing habits. You will be asked what you would most like to gain from the session, be it improve your respiratory system for more energy, letting go of unwanted emotions, enhance focus and concentration, or learn new ways to help you feel deeply relaxed.
You will then practise the technique under the guidance from The Zen Mind Breathwork Coach, and by the end of your session, you should be confident enough to start a short practice at home. Throughout the practical part of the session, you will be lying down, in a comfortable position, supported by pillows and blankets.
After the session, you will have time to discuss your experience and be given suggestions for practical ways you can incorporate a self-practice into your daily life.
The Zen Mind offers one to one in person or online/virtual sessions and we run both public and private workshops, collaborations, events and retreats throughout the year.
